Concept 2 Rowers - A New Dimension Unveiled
Rowing is one of the faster paced and the best way to exert your body to its limits. Rowing as a sport has been popular and remained in vogue for a long time now. So much so that it has been an Olympic sport too. Outdoor as well as Indoor rowing can be considered the most exerting sport of all. On a competitive level, an athlete would do anything to gain an edge over the others without resorting to cheating. This would include using cutting edge equipment and apparel. In rowing, technology has made it possible to equip Concept 2 rowers with state of the art oars and light weight boats. With the advance of technology, two brothers, Dick and Pete Dreissigacker, who applied for the USA Olympic rowing team and failed, decided to apply their knowledge and experience to help future rowers. They started the company called Concept 2, also known as Dreissigacker, and used carbon fiber in their oars, which increased the performance of rowers by up to 2%. So much so that by the 1992 Olympics, all rowers had adopted the new Concept 2 oars for outdoor rowing as well as the indoor rower for practice and gyms. Pete and Dick, owners of Concept 2 have perennially strived to make the lives of rowers across the world easier and to give them the competitive edge over other rowers. Apart from producing world class oars, they also make indoor rowers for practice. The Concept 2 indoor rowers were first introduced in 1981, made out of bicycle parts and introduced at a competitive price of 600$ when the nearest competitor had a product going for 3000$. This was the first model termed Model A and was an instant success in gyms worldwide. Apart from the basic machine, it only had a milometer to count the miles a rower was doing in a session. With the company now established, the two brothers brought out the Model B rower. Where other stationary rowing machines failed because they couldn't stand the wear and tear of the practice of a professional rower, the Concept 2 rower excelled by providing a moving seat thus mimicking the actual action of a rower. The Model B machine was professionally produced out of machine parts and provided a milometer along with the newly introduced Air Resistance system and a Performance Monitor which also proved to be attractive to rowers. As times advanced, Concept 2 soon brought out its Model C rower which used a reliable new chassis and was now treated as a complete workout machine and was used by rowers and non rowers alike because of the spread of the gym phenomenon. The Model C was also used for training military personnel and peace keeping forces because of its reliability. The last 2 models to come out of the Concept 2 design boards were the Model D and Model E rowers. Both these rowers were instant successes due to the Internet phenomenon where people used to log in their rowing miles on online logbooks and share their techniques as well as arrange championships and races. Model E is the latest to piece of beauty from the Concept 2 stable and provides the best in terms of rowing, air resistance, performance monitoring and an effective workout. |
